GURGAON: Three days after a man was lynched in Hayatpur after he had fired rounds of bullets at the village sarpanch, a person claiming to be his father approached the police on Sunday.
The man from Mujaffarnagar in UP claimed that the deceased was Praveen and he approached police to hand him over the body.
“But we have told him clearly that the body will be handed over only after we conduct a DNA test.
Only if the sample matches with the man will we allow him to take the body,” said police commissioner S S Deswal.
On Saturday, a postmortem examination of the deceased's body was conducted. On Thursday, a mob had burnt alive the assailant.
Earlier, police claimed that they have identified the killers of 32-year-old sarpanch Rakesh Yadav, who were allegedly hired by the main accused, also named Rakesh.
Both had an old enmity. Police had claimed that the assailants who attacked the sarpanch were living in nearby villages and did a reconnaissance before executing the murder.
